Flash Photography in London

Have you ever had the opportunity to photograph an epic shoot on a yacht in London? Imagine the scene: a stunning model in a gorgeous dress, but the dress shows up wrinkly. Nothing against the model—it’s just one of those dresses that wrinkles if you even breathe on it. Despite this, the shoot was phenomenal, thanks to Sanjay, an incredible photographer based in London. He brought together a beautiful model and a gorgeous location, creating images that are truly breathtaking. You'll be amazed at the difference between his photos and mine, and how I edited and pulled it all together, including an epic sunset that didn’t even exist.

Setting Up for the Shoot

Before diving into the shoot, let's talk about the setup. We decided to make the most of the deck area for the best shots. We considered using the windscreen and the flybridge to capture the stunning London skyline and bridge as our backdrop. Leading lines from the side planks added a dramatic touch.

Gear and Lighting

We used Profoto B1 strobes and photo stands, which are crucial for outdoor photography. The setup included:

  • A snoot and grids
  • A zoom reflector with a grid
  • An A10 for its compact size
  • Various gels for lighting effects

Camera Equipment

Both Sanjay and I used the Canon R5 mirrorless camera. Here’s a rundown of the lenses we had on hand:

  • Canon RF 28-70mm f/2
  • Canon RF 16-35mm
  • Canon RF 135mm f/1.8
  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.2

With these lenses, we had everything we needed to cover wide shots and close-ups.

Shooting and Editing

The shoot went smoothly, and we were thrilled with the images we captured. However, I got so engrossed in editing that I forgot to record the process! But don’t worry, I’m here to show you the before and afters, especially how I used AI tools to enhance the images.

Editing Magic with Evoto

I started editing in Lightroom using my presets, then moved to Evoto for the final touches. Here’s where the magic happened:

  • Dewrinkling: The AI dewrinkling feature in Evoto is incredible. With a click of a button, all the wrinkles in the dress were gone. It was like magic!
  • Skin Retouching: I smoothed out the model's skin and removed shine, making her look flawless even on a sweaty day in London.
  • Sky Replacement: This is my favorite part. I created a dynamic sunset that didn’t exist during the shoot. The AI adjusted the colors and lighting to match the new sky, even adding reflections in the water.

Before and After

The transformation is stunning. Here are some highlights:

  • Wrinkles: Before and after shots show how Evoto eliminated all wrinkles from the dress.
  • Skin and Shine: The model’s skin went from shiny to smooth effortlessly.
  • Sunset Creation: The before and after images of the sunset are mind-blowing. The AI-generated sunset and its reflections look so real, it’s hard to believe they weren’t there.

Conclusion

Photographing in London with Sanjay was an incredible experience. Seeing how he works and comparing our different styles from the same shoot was enlightening. Editing with Evoto took the images to a whole new level. The ability to dewrinkle clothes, retouch skin, and create stunning sunsets with AI is revolutionary.
